Keitha Clark’s Fiddle to Make People Dance Bhangra

Keitha Clark has been fiddling for a long time in the Yukon and nationwide! People have been dancing swing, two-step, barn, etcetera to her tunes. However, the idea of dancing bhangra was a brand-new and unique idea. It is also totally a Yukon made idea. And it happened just spontaneously and wonderfully. I am happy to announce that now we are going to take that idea from the kitchen dance to the stage and Keitha Clark will perform at our show “Bhangra – The Dance of the Punjab” on Dec 17 at the Old Fire Hall so that we all can dance Punjabi Bhangra with the to her fiddle tunes.

Keitha Clark has been active in the Yukon music community since she moved North in 2005. She maintains a busy teaching studio and enjoys creative combinations, like apples with peanut butter, or Bhangra with Bodhran.

Katie Avery in Bhangra – The Dance of the Punjab

Katie Avery in Bhangra – The Dance of the Punjab

I am excited to announce that the well-known violinist and our friend Katie Avery will perform at our show “Bhangra – The Dance of the Punjab” on Dec 17 at the Old Fire Hall. Katie will be the part of the band known as Crooked Folk to bring the musical light to the Traditional Irish and Scottish Set Music with her violin so that we all can dance Punjabi Bhangra on it. Katie began violin lessons at the age of 4 at the Suzuki String School of Guelph, Ontario. She went to complete a bachelor of music at the University of Toronto in 2010. In 2012, she moved to Whitehorse to teach Suzuki violin. Thank you, Katie!

When East Meets West

Bhangra on Traditional Irish & Scottish Set Music – About 5 months ago, I had posted this video on FB for fun, dancing some bhangra moves on the Traditional Irish & Scottish Set Music created by my friends Lee Covin, Keitha Clark, Jerome McIntyre, Katie Avery, Kate Weekes, and Calla Paleczny, which lots of people liked everywhere. NOW, I have a fantastic news! Most of these friends will be playing this music again IN REAL at my bhangra show on Dec 17 and I will be dancing bhangra on their live music. Tickets for the Dec 17 show are available on Yukon Arts Centre, Arts Underground, and YukonTickets.com!
